Comeback Daniil Medvedev Claims First Title in Nearly 30 Months
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard courts
A resurgent the Russian player won his initial trophy for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.
The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a challenging period, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.
The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.
Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.
It is Medvedev's maiden trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface after March of the previous year.
Victory also signifies he has won 21 championships at 21 various tournaments.
"It's the first time I'm at a event with my children together, so to get a championship is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.
Medvedev's retrieving play style and regular reactions on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his ability to play at the top level was finished.
However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.
He came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the concluding five points to go ahead.
Both players traded break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.
The opponent defended 4 early opportunities in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to that score to close out the victory.
Appropriately, he earned victory with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
